I find "Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach" by Hennessy and Patterson (Amazon link) to be a very strong and solid approach to computer architecture, with quite a few case studies that are directly relevant to programming. It's used to various extents in several undergraduate and graduate level CS architecture courses in the US. Contains hundreds of participation activities including questions, animations, tools, and seamlessly integrated auto-generated and auto-graded challenge activities. Provides an exceptionally approachable introduction to computer organization. Uses an elegant simple MIPS subset called MIPSzy, which is great for learning and features Integrated MIPSzy and MIPS simulator for hands-on learning.
This book will be useful for undergraduate students of computer science and engineering, and information technology. There are two major levels at which any computer system is usually examined—architecture and implementation. This chapter introduces these two terms. The architecture of a computer system is the user-visible interface.
The architecture is the structure and the operation of the system as seen by the programmer. Computer Programming and Architecture: The Vax. Henry Levy, Richard Eckhouse. William Stallings (shelved 1 time as computer-and-programming). Note: Much of the material in this book is specific to the version of Visual Basic and is not compatible with more recent/current versions of Visual book discusses introductory computer programming concepts.
The book's examples use Microsoft Visual /5(7). This book is an introduction to the concepts of computer programming within the context of the visual arts. It offers a comprehensive reference and text for Processing (), an open-source programming language that can be used by students, artists, designers, architects, researchers, and anyone who wants to program images. An instruction set architecture (ISA) is the interface between the computer's software and hardware and also can be viewed as the programmer's view of the machine.
Computers do not understand high-level programming languages such as Java, C++, or most programming languages used. A processor only understands instructions encoded in some numerical fashion, usually as binary numbers. You should also use a book called Computer Organization and Desing by David Patterson and John Hennessy, that explains computer architecture very well.
They use the MIPS architecture as an example, but all the concepts are easily applied to other architectures.
